BR 34: San Frascisco

      I think you all have heard of San Francisco because it is very famous city in California. However, we don't know well what kind of place San Francisco is. So, I want to introduce you many things about San Francisco.
      San Francisco is located in the west coast of the United States. There is the Pacific Ocean on the west side. San Francisco Bay on the east side and the Golden Gate with its famous bridge on the north side. There are about seventy hills and they break the town into different parts, called neighbourhoods.
     Now, I'm going to tell you about the history. People began to live in this country thousands of years ago.Native Americans in this part of the country were called the Ohlone. They lived by the coast and ate seafood or wild animals. But their lives suddenly changed in the late 1700s due to the travellers from Europe. A Spanish soldier made a mission there and they needed the workers, so they made many Ohlone  live in the mission. In 1821, the area became part of Mexico and built houses away from mission and they became a town called Yerba Buena. In 1846, a war happened between the United states and Mexico and the Yerba Buena became part of United States and changed its name San Francisco. Among the history, I think "gold rush" is very important. In 1848, a worker called James Marshall found gold in the river in California. After that, many people came to find gold and many shops opened.  Because of this, a little town became a city.
     The weather is unique in San Francisco. As I said above, it is very near the water , between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, so here is never very hot or very cold. For example, compare the day in February with the day in August, there is only 4℃ difference of temperature. The weather is usually worse from June to August because a lot of fog come from the Pacific ocean, and you some times need coat in summer. The weather also change from one neighbourhood to next one. One area is hot and the other, there is fog or rain.
     Also, San Francisco is a best place for shopping and eating. There are many big shops in San Francisco like Bloomingdale's and Macy's. You can buy expensive clothes and nice things for you. People love reading and they buy more books than the people of other US city. The most famous bookshop is City Lights , opened in 1953. After you finish shopping, you can enjoy delicious food at restaurants. For example, at Fisherman's Whart, one of the biggest restaurant, we can eat sourdough bread. People often ask for the most famous thing, clam chowder in sourdough bread. You can eat the warm chowder first and then you finish the sourdough bread.
     From this book, I learned many interesting and attractive things in San Francisco. I think San Francisco is the best place for sightseeing, so if you are interested or have a opportunity to go to US, please visit San Francisco!
